FC Cup:Mark Robins Faces His Old Boss in The Carling Cup Tonight
FC Cup:Mark Robins Faces His Old Boss in The Carling Cup Tonight
There are sportsmen who, however unfairly, become known for one momentary incident in their lives. Eric Hollies spent a quarter of a century bowling leg spin for Warwickshire but only one of his 2,323 wickets is ever remembered: the last ball that Don Bradman ever faced in Test cricket, which dismissed him for a duck. Hollies even called his autobiography, The Hand that Bowled Bradman.Mark Robins has won an FA Cup and a League Cup, been part of the Norwich side that overcame Bayern Munich and tasted promotion with Leicester. But he accepts his playing career will be recalled for one stooping header that met a cross from Mark Hughes to ensure that Manchester United won an FA Cup tie at Nottingham Forest, where defeat might have had terminal consequences for his manager. His autobiography might be, The Man who Saved Fergie.
Having combined to see off Wolves in the last round, the veteran and the prodigy did so once again as Barnsley manager Mark Robins was denied a victory against the manager whose job he once famously secured with a winning goal in an FA Cup tie at Nottingham Forest almost 20 years ago.Welbeck, the pick of United’s impressive youngsters at Oakwell, opened the scoring before Owen completed the victory for the cup holders with a magical second.Yet the game was marred by Gary Neville’s 64th minute dismissal for a studs-up challenge on Adam Hammill prior to an unsavoury injury-time incident when two Barnsley supporters entered the pitch and kicked the ball out of United goalkeeper Ben Foster’s hands.Sir Alex Ferguson arrived in Barnsley having already experienced the ignominy of a cup upset at Oakwell. Eleven years ago, his reigning league champions were on the wrong end of a 3-2 FA Cup fifth-round replay in South Yorkshire, albeit against a Barnsley side enjoying a one-season flirtation with the top flight.
Tottenham and Everton fielded near-full strength teams and produced a lively game and a bizarre goal at White Hart Lane.Spurs went ahead after 31 minutes with a superb counter- attack ending with Tom Huddlestone's powerful strike.Robbie Keane doubled the lead after 57 minutes in a mighty scramble featuring no less than four rebound attempts after his penalty had been saved.Stand-in goalkeeper Brad Guzan was Villa's hero at the Stadium of Light as he saved a penalty from Kenwyne Jones to force extra time before keeping out three Sunderland efforts in the shootout to help his side to a 3-1 penalties success. The fourth round concludes on Wednesday when Arsenal face Liverpool, Chelsea play Bolton Wanderers and Manchester City take on second division Scunthorpe, the last remaining lower league club.

CHELSEA v BOLTOM || Carlo Ancelotti Targets First Trophy (Carling Cup)
CHELSEA v BOLTOM || Carlo Ancelotti Targets First Trophy (Carling Cup)
CHELSEA:
Carlo Ancelotti couldn't have wished for a better set of results last weekend and, with his side sitting at the head of the Premier League and with one foot in the Champions League knock-out stages, the Italian will be entitled to reflect on a successful three months should Chelsea beat Bolton and secure a place in the Carling Cup fifth round.Ancelotti is certainly making all the right noises about wanting to do well in the same competition that proved to be the catalyst for Jose Mourinho's extended run of success at Stamford Bridge although he will rest key players against Gary Megson's side.
"It's important because it's the first final," said the Chelsea manager. "It's the first title and we have a good opportunity tomorrow. We will change some things but we will pick a very competitive team."Ancelotti's plans will not be affected by reports that Wanderers were affected by swine flu last week. Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce, whose own squad has been affected by the virus, warned Chelsea's players are now at risk following the meeting between the two teams last weekend. But Ancelotti said: "I'm not worried because the flu is not only on the pitch, it's everywhere. We will take all the precautions but I'm not a doctor. I stick to my grandmother's recipe which is hot milk and red wine. It's fantastic."
Paulo Ferreira, Alex, Deco, Daniel Sturridge, Florent Malouda and Salomon Kalou all return with Nemanja Matic, Jeffrey Bruma and Fabio Borini on the bench along with Lampard, Drogba and Essien.Jose Bosingwa (knee), Ashley Cole (ankle), Yury Zhirkov (knee) and John Mikel Obi (knee) are all sidelined.
Provisional squad: Hilario, Turnbull, Belletti, Alex, Ivanovic, Ferreira, Deco, Ballack, Malouda, Sturridge, Kalou, J Cole, Essien, Lampard, Drogba, Bruma, Borini, Matic.

Arsenal host Liverpool this afternoon in the marquee fixture of the Carling Cup fourth round. Arsene will field a slightly more experienced lineup for this round, as first team substitutes, Eduardo and Bendtner, being preferred to reserve team strikers Sunu and Watt. With Liverpool also likely to include a few starters in the first eleven, this should make for an interesting night in North London.
The team that took on West Brom will be very different than the team Arsene will put out tomorrow. Out comes Wilshere and Traore, due to injury. Also Watt, Szczensy, and Sunu will be relegated to the bench. Don't fret though, Nasri, Fabianski, Eduardo, Vela, and Bendtner will all be available.
Arsenal Team News:
Possible Starting XI: Fabianski, Gilbert, Senderos, Silvestre, Gibbs, Coquelin, Ramsey, Nasri, Eduardo, Vela, Bendtner
Liverpool Team News:
Big news is that neither Torres nor Gerrard will play tonight. Glen Johnson is also unlikely to feature, while Riera and Kelly are out. Dossena will make his return to the Liverpool squad. Other than those players, Rafa could go either way. He usually treats this competition very seriously, but I could see that changing this year.

David Beckham will Definitely Return To AC Milan
David Beckham will Definitely Return To AC Milan
AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has confirmed that former England captain David Beckham will again join the club in the January transfer window. Los Angeles Galaxy player Beckham arrived at the Serie A club on a similar deal earlier this year, playing out the second half of the season at the San Siro before returning to the US. ''I've never spoken about buying players in January. I've read several newspapers that have written that but I never said it,'' Galliani told Sky Sport. ''However, someone will arrive in January, a great boost for our midfield. He's an English player, his first name is David, you can try to guess what his surname is. It's practically certain at 100 per cent, the only thing missing is the signatures, but the agreement is complete. If you're thinking about David Beckham then it's him, anyone else, absolutely not.''During last season's stint at Milan, Beckham played 18 league matches, scoring twice.
David Beckham will definitely return to AC Milan on loan in January, chief executive Adriano Galliani said on Monday.
Beckham, who wants to play in Europe to try to secure his place in England's World Cup squad, had previously said the deal was 95% done. But Galliani has insisted that the deal to bring the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder back has now been secured.
"It's 100% certain. The only thing that is missing is the signatures but the agreement is complete," Galliani told Italy's Sky television. However, the 34-year-old, who is expected to stay at the San Siro from January until the end of the Serie A season in May, looks set to be Milan's only signing.

Those Guys had Been to The World Series Before
Those Guys had Been to The World Series Before
Reporting from:NEW YORK -- There is no face more familiar to those who watch playoff baseball than that of Andy Pettitte. For a decade and a half now, the camera has been zooming in on it -- 237 1/3 innings' worth of October close-ups. Even now, you can see it -- the dark eyes peering out between the brim of his cap and the tip of his black glove, the 5 o'clock shadow, the dimpled chin, the head-nod at the start of that long, muscular delivery.
The game that returned the New York Yankees to the World Series -- a 5-2 victory over the self-destructive Los Angeles Angels on Sunday night in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series -- ended, fittingly, with another familiar face of Octobers past, that of closer Mariano Rivera, who collected the last of his six outs at 12:01 a.m.
But it began where so many Yankee victories this time of year have begun -- though not so many of late -- with Pettitte, the veteran left-hander, on the mound, eating innings, getting the game to Rivera, carrying the Yankees onward.
And so, the Yankees are back in the World Series for the 40th time in franchise history, but the first time since 2003. They will meet the NL champion Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium, in a delicious battle of ace left-handers: Philadelphia's Cliff Lee and New York's CC Sabathia.
For that, the Yankees can thank Pettitte -- as they have been for years. His victory Sunday night was his 16th in the postseason, the most all-time. It was also the fifth time he had won a clinching game in the playoffs, also a record. He has made more than full season's worth of postseason starts in his career -- Sunday night's was his 38th, dating from Game 2 of the 1995 AL Division Series.
The errors didn't cost the Angels the game Sunday -- veteran left-hander Andy Pettitte pitched brilliantly, giving up one run in 6 1/3 innings, and even after the Angels dinged closer Mariano Rivera for a run on Vladimir Guerrero's RBI single in the eighth, the Yankees had a 3-2 lead. But the miscues, one by second baseman Howie Kendrick, who dropped first baseman Kendry Morales' throw on Nick Swisher's bunt, and one by pitcher Scott Kazmir, who overthrew Kendrick on Melky Cabrera's bunt, left a bitter taste in the Angels' mouths.
"They capitalized on every mistake we made," center fielder Torii Hunter said. "We were sound defensively all season, and we got into the playoffs, and things happened. I don't know why. It's probably mental."We didn't play Angels-style baseball. We might have played it for one or two games, but we let things get away from us."Things got away from Saunders quickly Sunday -- 12 of the 23 batters he faced reached base, and he was fortunate to give up only three runs.
The Angels took a 1-0 lead in the third when Jeff Mathis led off with a double, his seventh hit in eight playoff at-bats, and scored on Bobby Abreu's two-out single to right.Saunders escaped two-on, two-out jams in the first and second innings but unraveled after walking Robinson Cano to open the fourth.Swisher, who was hitting .100 (three for 30) in the postseason, singled to left, and both runners advanced on Cabrera's bunt.
Derek Jeter walked to load the bases, and Johnny Damon lined a two-run single to left-center for a 2-1 lead. Mark Teixeira's infield single loaded the bases, and Alex Rodriguez walked to force in a run that made it 3-1.Scioscia pulled Saunders in favor of left-hander Darren Oliver, who got Jorge Posada to ground into an inning-ending double play and added a scoreless fifth and sixth. But Pettitte, with runners on second and third, knocked down Morales' comebacker and threw to first to end the sixth inning, and the Yankees pulled away in the eighth."It's frustrating, it stinks, to be honest with you, but they beat us fair and square," Hunter said. "We overcame a lot of obstacles this year -- the death of a teammate, a lot of injuries to key players -- and we just battled. We have nothing to hang our heads about."
"The Angels are a very tough team," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi, clutching the ALCS championship trophy. "The Phillies are a very tough team. We know that offensively, they're loaded. Their bullpen has thrown very well in the playoffs, and they were there last year."Obviously, they're a team with a lot of experience and a lot of momentum."
The Yankees finished the season 57-24 at home (the best home winning percentage in the majors) and have gone 36-8, including playoffs, there since the All-Star break. The Phillies won two of three games at Yankee Stadium in a May 22-24 series, outscoring New York 15-11.

Kobe Bryant scored 21 points and Andrew Bynum had 20 points
Kobe Bryant scored 21 points and Andrew Bynum had 20 points
ONTARIO, Calif. - Kobe Bryant scored 21 points and Andrew Bynum had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 113-107 preseason victory over the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night. The game drew a sellout crowd of 10,410 to Citizens Business Bank Arena.
Anthony Morrow had 24 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Warriors (3-4), while Stephen Jackson and Monta Ellis had 15 each.
Jackson was suspended for two games after calling Bryant a "dirty" player and arguing with Golden State coach Don Nelson following the Warriors' 110-91 win over the Lakers on Oct. 9.
Lamar Odom, who had missed the past two games with a leg contusion, had 16 points for the Lakers (5-1), while Derek Fisher and Josh Powell both had 10.
Pau Gasol (right hamstring) and Luke Walton (back) of the Lakers missed their fourth consecutive games.
The Warriors were without Nelson, who was attending to family business in Southern California. They also had Devean George (sore left knee), Acie Law (sprained left ankle) and Kelenna Azubuike (bone bruise) in street clothes, while Brandan Wright (left shoulder surgery) did not make the trip.
The contract Odom signed with the Lakers in the off-season, four years, $33 million, can't be touched by Khloe in a divorce. And Khloe will get an as-of-yet unrevealed annual lump sum, which will not go up or down during the marriage.
TMZ also reports that during the negotiations Khloe got Lamar to agree to buy a nice, expensive house for both of them that will probably cost $5 million minimum.
It brings a tear to the eye to see true love prevail like this. And some think the sanctity of marriage is threatened. How silly.

Angels closer Brian Fuentes gave up the game-tying home run::Yankees' Top 10
Angels closer Brian Fuentes gave up the game-tying home run
Angels manager Mike Scioscia has a problem. He no longer has an established closer. Maybe that should have been obvious in the second half of the season, when his nominal closer, Brian Fuentes, had more walks (15) than strikeouts (12). Fuentes struck out seven right-handed batters after the All-Star break. Seven. But it became most obvious in ALCS Game 2, even before Fuentes gave up the game-tying home run to Alex Rodriguez in the 11th inning. It was obvious because Scioscia wasn't even tempted to so much as warm up Fuentes in the ninth or 10th innings when the Yankees had left-handed batters at the plate and the winning run in scoring position. He elected to leave the game in the hands of Kevin Jepsen and Darren Oliver, prepared to lose without ever using his closer. They were the right moves to make, but it spoke volumes about how Fuentes is not a lockdown closer.
So what does Scioscia do about the ninth inning of Game 3 Monday if he has a one-run lead? Jepsen has much better stuff, but doesn't have the experience. Even Ervin Santana can't be ruled out as an option. Fuentes looks more and more like a situational lefty. He might get the last out, but only if it's a left-on-left matchup after some combination of Jepsen, Jason Bulger, Oliver and Santana do the heavy lifting.
The Angels owe Fuentes $10 million next year. And if he finishes 55 games (he finished 57 this year), they'll have to pay him $9 million in 2011.
Postseason baseball is as much a part of autumn in the Bronx as fall foliage, so there's no surprise that the Yankees have been involved in some of the most remarkable plays in October history. Here's our list, with apologies to Tommy Henrich, who hit the first walk-off homer in World Series history off Don Newcombe in Game 1 of the 1949 World Series, and Mickey Mantle, who hit a walk-off in Game 3 of the 1964 World Series. Both deserved spots on the list, but they were squeezed out by other amazing moments.

Sunderland 1-0 Liverpool || Reina is Beaten After Bent's Shot Deflecred in Off Balloon
Sunderland 1-0 Liverpool
Liverpool's stuttering season took a turn for the worse as they were beaten by a Sunderland side who went above them in the Premier League table.
The Black Cats went ahead when a Darren Bent shot was allowed to stand after deflecting in off a beach ball, which a Reds fan had thrown on to the pitch.
Bent then headed just wide before hitting the post with an angled shot.
Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon pulled off a double save from Dirk Kuyt and David Ngog late on to secure the win.
A fourth defeat of the league season will only add to the question marks over Liverpool's title credentials after they were outplayed without injured midfielder Steven Gerrard and striker Fernando Torres.
Ahead of a week in which they face a crucial Uefa Champions League tie against Lyon and host Manchester United, they only added weight to critics who label them a two-man team.
After Sunderland's heroics a fortnight ago coming within a whisker of taking three points away from Old Trafford, Steve Bruce's Black Cats looked to go one better in their second consecutive game against 'Top Four' opposition, taking on Rafael Benitez's Liverpool.
With new signing Boudewijn Zenden in the squad, and Liverpool missing key players Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, the home side would seldom get a better opportunity.
And it was a controversial strike from Darren Bent after just five minutes that gave Bruce's side a deserved win which takes them above an out of sorts looking Liverpool in the Premier League table.
Sunderland looked lively from the outset, with Darren Bent and Andy Reid both having chances within the first two minutes, before Liverpool's Glen Johnson hit the visitors first chance wide after a surging run down the right.
Dirk Kuyt and Yossi Benyoun got in each other's way after 68 minutes challenging for a ball that bounced up in front of goal and the effort they managed between them, though tame and easy for home keeper Craig Gordon, was the visitors' first on target. The hosts then carved out a glorious opening when Bent fed Malbranque in the area, but Jamie Carragher launched himself to block.Liverpool sent in the cavalry, Andriy Voronin and Javier Mascherano replacing Skrtel and Spearing with 18 minutes remaining, with David Ngog following for Babel.
Voronin's header from Bardsley's spooned clearance was taken in the 84th minute by Gordon, who then had to tip over Johnson's cross.Seven minutes of added time were shown during which Gordon produced a sensational double save from Kuyt and Ngog as Liverpool fell short.

1836: Apparently, Felipe Massa will be waving the chequered flag on Sunday. Not sure how much he'll enjoy that at his favourite circuit. He will also be at the press conference today, so it'll be interesting to hear if he's got any more to say on his new Ferrari team-mate.
From RayInTorontoCan on 606: "Webber and Button have pounded out five of the fastest laps of the day. The Brawn isn't too far off the Red Bull's pace and is looking like it might have the measure of the Kers cars as well."
1828: Jarno Trulli gets his braking wrong at turn one and goes for a bumpy ride on the grass. The Red Bulls are looking very strong again: Webber second, Vettel fourth. The Toro Rossos are third and eighth - but can they stay on the track this weekend?
1825: For the first time today, Jenson Button sits in P1 with a 1:12.969. Despite the understeer and oversteer. Rubens Barrichello is only 11th, but has done almost half the amount of laps.
1823: Not sure what's up with Renault. Neither of their drivers have bothered the timesheets yet. Only Sebastien Buemi and Sebastian Vettel are in the 1:12s. Jenson Button now up to fourth quickest.
1818: Jenson Button running fifth fastest at the moment, but he's not an entirely happy camper. "Obviously there is a problem," he tells his Brawn team. "But it's not like it's just oversteer. I've got a lot of understeer as well."
1815: Jarno Trulli on a flier, going fastest in the first two sectors, but he messes up on the third and is only third quickest overall. Sebastien Buemi still sitting pretty.
1811: Toro Rosso neatly bookending the leaderboard, with Buemi top and Alguersuari bottom. Impressive time of 1:12.796 by Buemi, a tenth quicker than Seb Vettel.
BBC Sport's Sarah Holt in Sao Paulo: "Re 1757: Oh OK Caroline, I'll stick my head out of BBC HQ for you and get some accurate weather information. It isn't raining - yet. There is definitely moisture in the air though and I'd be surprised if the grey clouds rolling overhead don't splash a few drops of rain down during this session."
1807: Times are tumbling... Vettel now top with a 1:12.923, followed by Kovalainen, Buemi, Webber, Rosberg, Trulli. Jenson Button down in 13th but only on lap three of his stint.
1804: Three cheers for Kamui Kobayashi, who is in P1 with a 1:14.516. Probably the only time he'll be in P1 this weekend... and as I type, he is usurped by Sebastian Vettel.
1800: Oops, I may have cursed it. As the green light goes on, some people in the crowd are putting their rain ponchos on. Cars rushing to get out on to the dry track. Another thumbs up from Felipe Massa as the camera is stuck in his face for the umpteenth time today.
1757: It looks overcast but dry as we count down to second practice. Again, it is difficult to tell from Shepherds Bush.
BBC Sport's Sarah Holt in Sao Paulo: "I had my first taste of Brazilian fever during the lunch break in the paddock. The first glimpse of hometown boy Rubens Barrichello prompted cheers, shouting and positive heckling from the fans hanging over the balcony. Barrichello flashed a smile and gave them a thumbs up. It was all very jolly. Barrichello's doppleganger Dad - Rubens Sr - was sat a stool away from fellow Dad John Button, who as the cheers rang out for Rubens turned and smiled, saying 'Yeah, it's like this for Jenson at Silverstone.'"
1749: Now, I know we're creeping into Friday night territory in the UK, but don't pretend you're not gripped - GRIPPED - by the practice drama about to unfold in front of our very eyes. Let me know just how gripped on 81111, on 606 or on Twitter. Hey, we might even knock Jan Moir off the top of the trending topics.
BBC Sport's pit-lane reporter Lee McKenzie: "A quick update for you. The paddock is pretty busy today, or maybe it just looks busy as it so small and narrow. The atmosphere is fantastic even though it looks like there will be more rain this afternoon. Felipe Massa's family are all here, and Nelson Piquet Sr."

The Brazilian Grand Prix 2008 was an epic finale to a sensational season. Both the title contenders, Felipe Massa of Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton of McLaren came here with a chance to capture the title. This being the little Massa’s home grand prix, he had an outside advantage. Although, Lewis was leading by a good number of points already and was on the brink of becoming the first black F1 World Champion, the undisputed leader of the racing world

1939: Lovely... I very much hope to see you back here tomorrow at 1430 BST ahead of final practice and the thrills and spills of what could be a wet qualifying session. Have a magnificent Friday night.
From anon via text on 81111: "Fernando's the best!"
1932: The third title contender, Sebastian Vettel, is seventh. Lewis Hamilton is 10th. Bad times for Ferrari. Kimi is 18th, Fisi 20th.
1931: No... Fernando Alonso's 1:12.314 puts him in P1, ahead of Sebastien Buemi, Rubens Barrichello, Mark Webber, Jenson Button and Jarno Trulli. Yellow flag at the end of the session. No idea why.
Chequered flag
1930: Out comes the black and white flag. Can anyone beat Nando?
1929: Seconds remaining now and Fernando Alonso goes quickest... Rubens Barrichello looks like challenging as he purples the first sector, but loses time in the middle and ends up third.
1926: Three minutes remaining and everyone (except Fisi) is on the track.
1923: Not much to tell you. No one is improving their times on the damp-ish, cold-ish track. I'll tell you this instead: Lewis Hamilton made his long-awaited visit to Ayrton Senna's grave on Wednesday. "For me it was special," he said. "I'd wanted to do it for the last two years but I was being followed and all kinds. I wasn't (this time), I don't think I was at least."
1916: And just to complete Fisi's embarrassment, there is no moped available so he'll have to walk back to the pits. Rubens Barrichello stops at the end of the pit lane - and he blasts away. That's the way to do it.
BBC pit-lane reporter Holly Samos: "Fisichella stalled the car after trying a practice start. He was outside of the pit lane so that's why the team couldn't go and fetch him."
1911: Big cheers for Fisi as he takes his helmet off. He waves, albeit sheepishly. The Italian is propping up the leaderboard, while the Force Indias are seventh and 16th. Still Sebastien Buemi leading the way ahead of Jenson Button.
1908: Poor Fisi is now directing the steward pushing his car. Wonder what Luca Badoer is thinking? Fisi's back in the car now as the steward keeps on pushing. All most undignified.
1906: I've never known an emotion to fall on my head. Or a memory. Is it just me? The rain at Interlagos is more like a gentle sprinkle. Giancarlo Fisichella has stopped at the end of the pit lane... and now he's waving at the Toyota behind him to indicate he isn't doing it deliberately.
It's raining
1901: Here comes the rain again, falling on my head like a memory, falling on my head like a new emotion.
1858: Someone's just switched off Maurice Hamilton mid-sentence. Well, his microphone, anyway. On the track, drivers one through 10 are into the 1:12s. Buemi from Button from Webber.

NExt Mission Avram Grant Portsmouth Chief Executive
NExt Mission Avram Grant Portsmouth Chief Executive
Peter Storrie, the Portsmouth chief executive, yesterday promised Paul Hart his job as manager is safe despite Avram Grant's reappointment as director of football.
Grant has made a surprise return to Fratton Park, becoming Saudi Arabian billionaire Ali al-Faraj's first major change as Portsmouth owner since taking over this week. The appointment of the former Chelsea manager raises immediate doubts over the future of Hart, who has presided over Portsmouth's worst start to the season in their 111-year history.
Storrie insists Grant, who spent a year as Portsmouth's technical director when Harry Redknapp was manager in 2006, has been bought in to assist Hart in keeping the club in the Premier League and not to replace him. "Avram is coming in as director of football, that has been made abundantly clear," Storrie said. "Avram wants to get back to being involved in the Premier League. He did the same role with Harry and at Chelsea.
Last night Grant told Sportsmail he was delighted to be back involved in 'the best league in the world'. He said: 'It's great to be back and particularly at the club where I started. I am happy to be working with Paul again, who was running the academy when I was here last time.
'He knows how I operated with Harry (Redknapp) and I am here simply to help the club stay in the Premier League. We had a lot of success when I was here last time and we will all work together to try to turn things around after a difficult period for the club. I met the owners and they were very keen for me to do everything I can to help.'
Grant, who has a three-year contract, will start his job on Monday after an appointment that Hart discovered was being made only after yesterday's training session. Peter Storrie, the club's chief executive, said in a press conference yesterday that he knew of Grant's return only late on Monday.
This is a very happy day for me," Grant told the Israeli sports channel. "My goal was to stay in the British soccer league and that is what I've done. It's now time for more work and less talk."
Grant will return to the British soccer league after a two year break following the termination of his position as Chelsea soccer coach in 2008, after losing to Manchester United in the Euro Leagues.“Everyone at the club knows how I worked with Harry Redknapp when I was here before and that it will be the same this time round.
“Whatever the club needs me to do, I will do it. I will be there to help him and the club, to help them stay in the Premier League.”
Kubica will Join Them in World Champion: Them in 2010
Kubica will Join Them in World Champion
(CNN) -- BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica has been confirmed as Renault's new F1 driver from 2010 as a direct replacement for Ferrari-bound former world champion Fernando Alonso.
The 24-year-old Pole, who has spent the last three-and-a-half years with the German manufacturer, had been forced to find a new team after BMW revealed they were pulling out of the sport at the end of the year.
Although Renault have struggled since their title triumphs of 2005 and 2006, even with Alonso back at the wheel these past two years, Kubica is confident they can again be a force.
"I'm very happy I will be joining Renault in the 2010 season," Kubica told the team's official Web site."I feel I have a special connection with this team because in 2005 I won the World Series by Renault. This gave me the chance to test with the team in Barcelona, which led to my debut in Formula One. "I am highly motivated and optimistic that we can be at the front of the grid next year and hopefully fighting for the world title," said Kubica.
Renault team principal Bob Bell added: "He is one of the most naturally talented drivers of his generation and it is great to have him next season."
Kubica shone in 2008, claiming his and the team's first win at the Canadian Grand Prix and going on to finish fourth in the drivers' championship.
But BMW Sauber struggled to reproduce a competitive car under 2009's specifications and Kubica lies 14th with a best finish of fourth at the Belgian GP.
THE Renault Formula One team hired Robert Kubica for next season to replace two-time champion Fernando Alonso, who will join Ferrari. The length and terms of the 24-year-old Pole’s contract weren’t disclosed in a team statement today.
Kubica raced for BMW-Sauber since 2006, winning last year’s Canadian Grand Prix. Bayerische Motoren Werke AG is pulling its support of the team after this year.
Diego Maradona Coach of the Argentine National Football Team Less than a Year
Argentine National Football Team Less than a Year
Diego Maradona has threatened to quit as coach of the Argentine national team less than a year after taking the post.
The 48-year-old will hold talks with Argentine Football Association president Julio Grondona after the coming World Cup qualifiers.
"If I continue it will be under my conditions," said Maradona.
Argentina lie fifth in their regional standings with two qualifiers remaining and could face a play-off to reach next summer's finals.
Maradona has come under pressure following a run of poor results including a 6-1 drubbing by Bolivia in March since succeeding Alfio Basile last November.
Three successive defeats by Ecuador, Brazil and Paraguay have left Argentina fifth in the South American standings and in serious danger of failing to qualify for South Africa.
"United's interest in my client is not something new," agent Antonio Caliendo told Tuttopremier.it. "They have been following him for a while.
"Now it seems to me that they are pressing for him but I don't think there has been any concrete offers yet."
The two played together for the Albiceleste, famously capturing the World Cup in Mexico in 1986, and Valdano, who scored in the 3-2 final win over West Germany, now says that his former team-mate has a difficult task on his hands in bringing Argentina to the finals in South Africa, but adds that he is sure of their progression.

New Zealand Vs Australia Next Final ODI-50 over
New Zealand Vs Australia Next Final ODI-50 over
New Zealand called off the tour, scheduled to start in November, after militants armed with grenades and guns ambushed Sri Lanka’s players in Lahore Tuesday.
New Zealand officials are expected to meet their Pakistani counterparts in international meetings in April or June, where they are likely to discuss moving the tour to a neutral venue.
“I think the options will probably revolve around playing them at a neutral venue. They have played previous games in the Gulf states, in Abu Dhabi,” Vaughan said.
The New Zealand cricket team cut short their 2002 tour to Pakistan after a suicide bomber blew up a bus outside the team’s hotel in Karachi, killing at least 12 people.
Black Caps skipper Daniel Vettori would have liked an extra day of rest after the win over Pakistan on Saturday in a day/night match, but insists his team are hungry to win the competition.
"I wish we had another day before the final, to be honest," he said.
"It was exhausting to get through the late game, but I think once Monday turns up the adrenalin will take over and everyone will be pretty excited about playing in a final."
Vettori added: "I think you probably have achieved what you set out to achieve. But once you reach that level, you realise there is an immense desire to go all the way and I think there's no relief in the camp.
"It was all about how we're going to win on Monday as opposed to 'it's great that we've made it'. It's pleasing to me as captain to hear those sorts of sentiments and we've got to make sure we put it into practice."

Read a full preview for the final of the ICC Champions Trophy between Australia and New Zealand at Centurion on Monday Oct 5, 2009, starting at 13.30pm BST.
"To have this group of relatively young guys make it through to a final is a great achievement but we won't be happy until we peak on Monday," he said.
"We will need to play our best game in a month in the final."
Holders Australia brushed England aside in the last four having topped their group on the way to the final at Centurion.
The Aussies have won the previous three World Cups and are the reigning Champions Trophy holders.
They went into this year's tournament behind some of their rivals in the rankings table but will now be favourites against New Zealand.
Head-to-head
Australia and New Zealand have never contested a global final before, but in their most recent meeting — a one-day series in February — they fought to a standstill at 2-2. “We have a reputation for getting up against Australia,” said New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori, “but they are a very impressive side, especially when you look at their top order batting.”
"It's the first time in a few years we have not been ranked the number one team coming into a tournament like this.
"We were probably number three or four for this one and that is where some of the experts thought we would finish.
"But we are happy with the way we have played one-day cricket over the last three to four weeks.
"I thought we would be competitive when we arrived here. Our record in these events speaks for itself and my expectations have always been pretty high with this group."

The Football Match Draw one's pay : 2-2 Goal
The Football Match Draw one's pay : 2-2 Goal
Today’s fixture in the Premier League is certainly an interesting one as Steve Bruce returns to Old Trafford to face his former club Manchester United.
The Sunderland boss spent almost nine years as a Red Devil, a stint which brought three EPL crowns, two FA Cup and League Cup winners’ medals and European Cup Winners’ Cup and European Super Cup triumph.
The Sunderland boss, who takes his team to Old Trafford for the ESPN live Premier League game, told ESPN Soccernet: "There are not many English centre-forwards of his calibre, or indeed playing regular in the Premier League.
"I wouldn't tell Fabio Capello who to choose or who not to choose, but Darren must be in contention. We don't actually have a centre-forward like him, one who scores goals, lead the line, he gives you something slightly different to the rest."
Bruce had a problem with Bent handing over the penalty duties to his Sunderland strike partner Kenwyne Jones in their last match a 5-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers
Bruce says: "Yes I was serious about it, and I told him in no uncertain terms I didn't want that to happen, and it won't happen again. Alright if you're four or five up and the other guy needs one for a hat-trick, then fine. But not when you're 1-0 up. If he'd taken it and scored he would be the Premier League's top goalscorer, which is no mean feat."
But Bruce has no qualms about Bent being on Twitter, despite the fact that it got him into trouble at Tottenham Hotspur when the striker criticised chairman Daniel Levy. Now Bent has posted on the social networking site that he is "mad tired", but looking forward to Saturday's game at Old Trafford.
This should be an interesting game. Sunderland redefined the phrase "parking the bus" at Old Trafford last season, playing 10-0-0 and losing 1-0 to an injury-time winner from Nemanja Vidic, but they are much more comfortable in their own skin these days and I reckon they'll have a go at United's surprisingly fragile defence today. The psychoti fibrous pair of Lee Cattermole and Lorik Cana in the centre of midfield allow them to play 4-4-2, and Darren Bent is in one of his strikingly frequent purple patches. With Ryan Giggs in the mother of all purple patches and Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov playing as well as they ever have together, this should be entertaining stuff.

Barclays Premier League: Arsenal v Blackburn (1.30), Chelsea v Liverpool (4pm), Everton v Stoke, West Ham v Fulham.Wiley brings the match to an end. Once again there has been late drama at Old Trafford and Man United have bagged a crucial point. Sunderland though will feel aggrieved as they probably deserved more considering their performance.
Hassn Yebda is first start with the winning goal: Wolverhampton 0-1 Portamouth
Wolverhampton 0-1 Portamouth
By Peter Scrivener:
Portsmouth ended a turbulent week with their first Premier League win of the season courtesy of Hassan Yebda's goal.
The Algerian midfielder, who is on loan from Benfica, powerfully headed in Kevin Prince Boateng's right-wing cross after Wolves failed to clear a corner.
Home keeper Wayne Hennessey then pulled off a fine save, low to his right, from Aruna Dindane's first-time strike.
Wolves were denied a second-half penalty after Marc Wilson appeared to handle Michael Kightly's cross.
Entire seasons can change on pieces of good fortune and Portsmouth's may well have done just that on Saturday at Molineux with two important calls going their way.
They say adversity brings out the best in people, and Portsmouth proved that with a rousing win at Molineux to claim their first points of the season.
The Pompey Chimes may be ringing alarm bells, with the clubs financial problems well documented, but Paul Hart’s side must believe they can survive relegation again after their first league win since May, and their first away win since last November.
Few managers started the afternoon under as much pressure as Portsmouth's Paul Hart today; having got off to the worst start to a top-flight season by any side since 1930 with seven straight defeats and in a week in which they were unable to pay their players wages, Portsmouth were in dire need of something to smile about - such as their first points of the campaign.
Portsmouth dominated the opening 45 minutes against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Kevin Prince Boateng had two decent efforts on goal before Hassan Yebda gave them a well-deserved lead in the 20th minute.
Eighteen minutes into the first half the assistant referee correctly flagged for a corner for the south coast club.
The home side were appealing for a goal-kick after Tommy Smith looked to have run the ball out of play but it was George Elokobi's block that deflected the ball out.

Only a major sports competition Olympic 2016
Only a major sports competition Olympic 2016
With the hosts of the 2016 Olympics to be selected in Copenhagen on Friday, each of the four candidates will be hoping to secure not only a major sports competition, but also an economic windfall.
Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo will be hoping their economies strike gold as the best athletes in the world visit their city.
Thousands of tourists will visit the host city and hotels will be filled, while millions will be spent on tickets, consumer goods and souvenirs.
Winning the Olympic Games could also kick-start other economic sectors, including construction, finance, culture, exhibitions and sports.
The vote in Copenhagen was carried on huge television screens in the Daley Center, set up to carry what many had hoped would be approval of Chicago to host the games.
Instead, Chicago was bounced in the first round of voting Friday, bringing an audible gasp heard from the crowd.
The city was eliminated so quickly that some of the would-be revelers weren't sure what had happened. Some started asking if they had heard what they thought they heard.
